Microsoft Word 2024 Shortcut Keys



Basic Shortcuts



Example: Press Ctrl + N to open a fresh Word document for a new project.



Example: Press Ctrl + O and select a file to open an existing Word document.



Example: Press Ctrl + S frequently to save changes to your document.



Example: Press Ctrl + W to close the current document.





Editing Shortcuts



Example: Highlight a word and press Ctrl + C to copy it to the clipboard.



Example: Move to another location and press Ctrl + V to paste the copied text.



Example: Highlight a paragraph and press Ctrl + X to remove and move it elsewhere.



Example: Press Ctrl + Z to undo the last edit you made.



Example: Press Ctrl + Y to redo an action after undoing it.





Formatting Shortcuts



Example: Select a heading and press Ctrl + B to make it bold.



Example: Select a phrase and press Ctrl + I to italicize it for emphasis.



Example: Select a word and press Ctrl + U to underline it.



Example: Press Ctrl + Shift + W to underline only the words, not spaces between them.



Example: Select a heading and press Ctrl + Shift + D to double underline it.





Navigation Shortcuts



Example: Press Ctrl + Home to instantly jump to the top of your document.



Example: Press Ctrl + End to scroll directly to the end of your document.



Example: Use Ctrl + Right Arrow to move one word at a time in a sentence.





Page & Paragraph Shortcuts



Example: Press Ctrl + Enter to start a new page for a new chapter.



Example: Press Ctrl + 1 to format the paragraph with single line spacing.



Example: Press Ctrl + 2 to increase line spacing for readability.



Example: Press Ctrl + 5 to format with 1.5 line spacing.





File Management Shortcuts



Example: Press Ctrl + P to open the print dialog and print your document.



Example: Press Ctrl + F and type a word to quickly locate it in the document.



Example: Press Ctrl + H to open the find and replace dialog to change words.



Example: Press Ctrl + Shift + S to open the styles pane for text formatting.





Table Shortcuts



Example: Press Tab to move to the next column in a table row.



Example: Press Shift + Tab to move back to the previous cell.



Example: Press Ctrl + Shift + + to quickly add a new row below the current one.



Example: Press Alt + Shift + Up to move a row up in a table.





Review & Commenting Shortcuts



Example: Press Ctrl + Alt + M to add a comment in the document.



Example: Press Ctrl + Shift + E to turn on Track Changes for reviewing edits.
